In short: Dishes for a mini oven are generally no more than 28–32 cm long and 20–24 cm wide. A 25-litre compact oven fits a small loaf tin or ramekins; a 45- or 60-litre model accommodates standard baking tins up to 30 cm. Always measure your oven rack beforehand.
Choosing the right dishes for a mini oven seems straightforward, but the internal dimensions of compact ovens are stricter than those of a standard oven. This article shows you, for each oven size, which baking tins and dishes fit, which material works best and what to look for when buying.
Why don't all dishes fit in a mini oven?
A standard rack in a conventional oven typically measures 44 × 36 cm. In a mini oven, that rack is considerably smaller: in a 25-litre model, the rack may only measure 28 × 22 cm. A dish that falls just outside that size won't slide in — or will block the hot-air circulation.
On top of that, the height of the oven cavity is more limited. A tall soufflé dish or a springform tin with a high rim can hit the heating element or the grill rack. Always measure the internal dimensions of your oven (width, depth and free height) — not the external dimensions of the appliance.

What are the rack dimensions for each model?
As a general guideline: the greater the volume in litres, the more spacious the rack. The table below gives an overview of the relationship between oven capacity and the maximum dish dimensions that typically fit.
| Oven volume | Typical rack width | Max. dish length (recommended) | Suitable baking tins |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 litres | ±28 cm | up to 26 cm | Ramekins, small cake tin, loaf tin 22 cm |
| 35 litres | ±33 cm | up to 30 cm | Tart tin 26 cm, small roasting tray, muffin tin (6 cups) |
| 45 litres | ±38 cm | up to 36 cm | Springform tin 28 cm, baking dish 30 × 20 cm, small roasting pan |
| 60 litres | ±43 cm | up to 40 cm | Standard roasting tray, pizza stone 30 cm, large lasagne dish |
Please note: these dimensions are guidelines. Always check the internal measurements in the manual of your specific model.
Which material should you choose for dishes in a mini oven?
Material has more of an impact than you might think, especially in a compact oven where the heat source is closer to the food.
- Ceramic: retains heat well and is ideal for oven dishes, gratins and casseroles. Slightly slower to heat up, but provides even cooking.
- Enamelled steel: light, conductive and suitable for high temperatures. Works well for roasts and cakes.
- Silicone baking moulds: flexible, easy to unmould and often more compact than rigid tins. Suitable for muffins, cakes and bread.
- Pyrex/borosilicate glass: heat-resistant up to 250 °C and suitable for most mini ovens. Advantage: you can see the cooking progress from underneath.
- Aluminium: good heat conductivity, lightweight. Be careful with fan-assisted heat: thin aluminium tins can warp slightly at high temperatures.
Avoid tins with thick wooden handles or wide protruding rims that make insertion difficult. A compact oven has limited clearance on the sides.
Round or rectangular baking tins: which fits best?
Round tins use the available width more efficiently than rectangular ones in a narrow oven, because the corners of a rectangular dish quickly hit the wall. A 24 cm springform tin fits in virtually any mini oven from 35 litres upwards; a rectangular lasagne dish of 33 × 23 cm only fits comfortably from 45 litres.
Using the oven for pizza? A round pizza stone of 28–30 cm fits in a 45-litre oven; for 32 cm, a 60-litre model is recommended. Also account for the combined height of the stone and the pizza: the top must not sit too close to the grill rack to avoid burning.
Practical checklist for choosing the right dishes for your mini oven
- Measure the internal width and depth of your oven cavity (not the appliance).
- Leave at least 1–2 cm of clearance on each side for hot-air circulation.
- Check the free height: dish + food + rims must all fit.
- Choose tins that withstand at least 230–250 °C (the maximum range of most mini ovens).
- Avoid tins with plastic components, even if labelled 'oven-safe': during prolonged baking above 200 °C, certain dyes or compounds may degrade.
Which dishes fit in a 25-litre mini oven?
In a 25-litre mini oven, a dish of no more than approximately 26 × 18 cm will fit. That is enough for a small cake tin, two ramekins side by side or a loaf tin of 22 cm. Larger dishes or springform tins above 22 cm will generally block the air circulation.
Enamelled interior: easier to clean
A practical advantage when using baking dishes is an enamelled interior wall: fat and sauce splatters release more easily than from an untreated steel inner panel. On bakeVIA models from 35 litres, three or more sides are enamelled. The 25-litre model has an easy-clean interior that offers similar benefits.
This makes choosing an open roasting dish a little more relaxed: you have less reason to worry about difficult-to-remove baked-on residue in the oven cavity itself.
Which mini oven suits your baking dish?
Already have a favourite roasting tin or cake pan and looking for a mini oven that fits around it comfortably? Take a look at the Mini-Oven 45 L — Series 1: with an internal width that accommodates standard baking dishes up to 36 cm and four enamelled sides, it is a versatile model for everyday use. bakeVIA sells these models directly through its own webshop.
If you bake larger quantities — think a full roasting tray or a lasagne dish for several people — the 60-litre version offers more room, including a rotisserie spit for a whole chicken alongside your standard range of tins.
